People want to know who you are and not "just" what you know.
Been pondering this lately...thinking about blogging, social media...
Wondering why when you give a status update on Facebook that is personal..."I ate at ______tonight", or "I went to ___" you get more comments than when you give a real estate or quote update.
Blogging is a window to your soul. Think for a minute of who you follow faithfully on Activerain, Twitter or Facebook. Think of all the comments that come flooding in when you write a post here that shows a bit of your personality, trials, or sorrows.
I was watching something on TV last night where the hosts were talking about Simon Cowell from American Idol and how his leaving was going to effect the show. 
Do people like Simon because he is honest, or mean to the singers?
I think a little of both, one he is usually right on the vocal performance, and also he is also brutally honest.
We respect people in life who speak the truth. A seller may not love to hear the truth about the price of their home, or a buyer the truth about a multitude of situations they are facing but they respect us.
Give people a reason to connect to you, help people connect with you.
When you blog stop playing it safe, if your market sucks, say so. We don't need to be afraid to give our opinion. People are looking for relationships and a reason to follow you, they want to feel a connection, either through your humor, (I don't have much of one) or your warm, caring attitude.
We are not all Simon Cowells and don't need to be, but blogging, and Social Media is all about being who you are. Some people will like you and some won't.Big deal.
Whenever I have had the opportunity to speak to other Realtors about Social Media, that is the biggest thing fear I hear...how much is too much and how much is not enough, how do I get people to follow me, subscribe to me, comment on my posts.
People relate to people not posts or news.
We don't know everything.
People can relate. Opening up, being real will afford you the opportunity to form real relationships and the folks who follow you will getting to know a real person.
Give people a reason to connect to you, help people connect with you.
Be yourself, you are one of a kind.
Working in the digital age is no different than working in real life, there is just an opportunity for a bigger audience.
