Yesterday I wrote on my Saline Chamber of Meeting with Michael Lorenc of Google speaking. The room noise was a distraction and some of you asked in your comments for me to clarify what was said. 
Here it is.
What does Google think about duplicate content?
Basically copying and pasting is a big No, No. But, it is Ok to post the same thing on your personal blogs.
Should we join all these Social Networks?
Yes it is a good way to stay in touch with people and form relationships.
Does he Twitter?
No, he stays on top of things by reading his RSS feeds. He is too busy.
Is it good to put our blog feeds into all these social networks?
Yes, it is but just don't spam with comments.
Is PR (Google Page Rank) all that important?
Google is a search engine for the consumer. They want to give the people searching the best answer to what they are looking for. So they are always changing the algorethums to stop the "bad guys", not to hurt us the ones marketing. They are focused on their goal, which is the best consumer search.Page Rank is important, because it gives authority to the site being searched.
And which is better Organic or Paid Search, PPC ?
Organic results get the most clicks, at 70% but the sponsored link clicks at 30% have the best conversion rates. He said the sponsored ads, are more targeted to what people are actually searching for. If you are having trouble writing your adwords, Google will help you. They recommend Google Analytics to know the best key words, where you can evalutate the best way to target your audience. They have been known to call people up and help them if they are not seeing the results in their paid searches that is expected.
A few other things he said in his speech.
1) The fastest growing internet users are Hispanics and Seniors.
2) Page one on Google in the Number 10 spot is better than Page 2 the # 1 spot.
3) Internet users want an answer right then, they will not wait. They want to look, on their time when they are ready to make a decision. Heads up Realtors, get right back to your prospects.
Michael, made a comment about Google Earth. He said when they were working for me to find a home and were still in Poland, they didn't just trust me, they wanted to see that house, sitting on a lot in that neighborhood. They use it all the time for looking for vacations, to make sure it is really on the ocean.
Google is about to release the Google Antroid. A mobile phone to compete with iPhone. The example he used was if he was running late for dinner. He could call his wife, Google the Florist on the way, and pick up flowers to pick up for Amy. That was a WOW for the Lunch and Learn Group at the Saline Chamber meeting.He also talked about how the Antroid will be able to scan bar codes and find the best price located somewhere else.
If you are looking for a certain pair of brown shoes, Google will give you the best price regardless of where they are located around the world. If you want to buy local then use Google Local.
