I just returned from ReTechSouth on Saturday. Kudos to Matt Faggoli and Brad Nix for putting on a fantastic conference. The venue was awesome, it was organized to the hilt, the Speakers Dinner was unbelievable and the Speakers were amazing.
My only disappointment was I couldn't attend all of them. Thirty minutes to speak is hard. Most of the time when I speak it is an hour and sometimes more. So it was hard to cut it back.
When you speak on Blogging there is always a mix of folks in the room, some are experienced and some are beginners. So you have to try to hit a few points for everyone.
My big take away from the entire conference was:
What is your Strategy?
We all need a strategy for our blogging but also for our Social Networking.
How much time do you spend on Social Media, was a question asked on the last panel of the day by Ines Hegedus to Kelly, Heather, Ginger, Jim, Teresa and myself. She wanted each of us to answer it. (It was a hard question, believe it or not.) Perhaps because to those of use using Social Media, we are on line most of the time. I know if I am not out listing or selling a house, I am online.
So how would you answer that?
Thom Abbot wrote a great post today on his take aways by bullet points. My roommate was Connie Harvey from Nashville. When I first emailed her about rooming together I think it surprised her.
Having gone to many conferences the last year, I knew it is like meeting old friends when you get to know them through blogging. Connie found that out after a couple of days. It is so easy to connect with folks you have met through blogging as you know them through their written words, engage them on line and when you meet face to face it is easy.
As Jeff Turner said, "your online friends are NOT online friends they are your real friends, these are real relationships. You play together, (Ginger) engage around objects, (Andy Kaufman) and Twitter with them (Nik Nik and Reggie).
Those of us one the panel were also asked if we got business from our blogging and social networking. The answer was YES by all of us and the majority of business has come from our blogs.
Bobby Carroll, of Dakno Marketing did a YouTube video of the Speakers dinner that is embedded below. I'm just glad they didn't get Rachael, (Brad Nix's wife ) who graduated from University of Michigan and me signing "Hail to the Victors" on video. I know Brad Nix did and like Thom and the pink purse hope it doesn't show up anywhere. They also have great videos on Dakno.tv.
The Best Thing
The best thing about these conferences is meeting new people. I was thrilled to meet Connie Harvey, Thom Abbott, Matt Fagioli, Brad Nix, Mike Sorenson, Jeremy Blanchard, Matt Wilkins, Elizabeth Ramsey Cooper, Jim Crawford, Debe Maxwell, Mara Hawks, Ken Cook, Ricardo Bueno, Matt and Anne Rains, Ken Cook, and Patty Keller.
This is too long so I will post more later this week.
Next time come, this conference was rockin' !!
