Ann Arbor Undressed : SEO @ LA2M, huh?

Ann Arbor ="25 miles surrounded by reality".....and a blog about it. ActiveRain.com

SEO @ LA2M, huh?

If you have been following my posts for any time at all you know A2 is how we write in Ann Arbor. There is a group that meets every Wednesday for lunch in dowtown Ann Arbor at Conor O'Neills Irish Pub.

LA2MThe name of the group is Lunch Ann Arbor Marketing, LA2M.

We have our Ann Arbor Area Directors meetings on the 1st Wed and MLS Committee meetings on the 3rd, plus I have Missy Caulk TEAM meetings on Wednesday, so even through I joined the LA2M group on Facebook, prior committments have kept me away.

With Spring break in Ann Arbor and Saline this week, I was able to go.

WOW it was fantastic.......

Andrew Miller spoke today, he is an SEO Expert in Ann Arbor. We talk a lot about SEO and Experts here in the rain, don't we? Andrew took a non-profit group Peace Neighborhood Center and did a quick analysis of what was right and wrong with their web-site. Now the Representatives from Peace Neighborhood were present and Andrew is helping them optimize their static site better. Peace Neighborhood Center

Much of what he spoke about was what we have learned here on Activerain. I liked what he said on one slide Search Engine Optimazation is not Rocket Science. I used that in one my presentations, it just takes time and diligence to keep at it.

It is not a one time, we're done, thank you mame' activitity.

Andrew Young at LA2M One other thing Andrew said that I haven't heard on Activerain and was such a light bulb to me. Ready?

"Would YOU subscribe to YOUR blog?"

That put things in perspective for me.

Andrew put the presentation on line for us so here it is if you want to watch and the notes on SEO are here. You can also follow Andrew C Miller on Twitter.

Hey Missy. Just stopping by to say howdy. Oh nice post too:) I would NOT subscribe to my blog. Actually the truth is I HAVE subscribed to my blog via feedburner. Then when I get those nice looking emails of my blog article I use them for email blasts to my data base.

Missy. I just read the "Notes on SEO". Excellent, excellent.

This was very helpful. For some reason, I especially appreciate the hierarchical clarifying of seo as a subset of internet marketing.

Missy, reading it in my own speed on the slide show really helped this slow old man, thanks!

Hi Missy - Looks like it was a great program.  Thanks for sharing.  I know I need to work on my website, and I have been neglecting my blog a little bit lately (but it is good news - I've been busy with clients).  I do have to beef up my SEO though, as I have slipped from where I was a few months ago on Google searches.

I've found that the local meetups are some of the most valuable things around.  There's actually a regular meeting of tech folks where I live and I've started planning all my other meetings around the event.    Fun to hear other success stories like that!

Posted by Dustin Luther (4Realz.net) about 3 years ago

I wish there were more techie people around here... ;-( Thanks for the slideshow... very much. Will follow Andrew on Twitter.

Missy, thanks for another great post.  We certainly signed up for a long tour of duty when we took up blogging.  LOL  Diligence indeed.

Looks like good information.  I'm still in the learning curve on SEO.  In fact the term still give me a headache.  Bookmarked for future reference.  Thank you

Lenn, the notes really added to the presentation, and yes they were excellent. He did a great job.

Broker Bryant, what an excellent idea to get your posts out to your sphere.

Nancy, wasn't that a great visual.

Dustin, I love local meet-ups and I met lots of folks from Twitter too. Went to a Bar Camp a few months ago, it had nothing to do with Real Estate and WOW all the technology folks in A2, blew my mind. Lots of good things happening in Ann Arbor.

Susie, I am sure you will, being a Twitter Queen!

Mark, as Andrew said, it is not rocket science, just takes time. And it is all on the internet. No mystery just hard work.

I knew it. I knew it. I knew. It is NOT rocket science. So many folks over think it and turn it into rocket science. As far as whether or not I'd subscribe to my blog? But of course. It's all in good fun :)

Hi Missy!

Too some, SEO is rocket science, because they have no idea what it is. But we all know better here in the Rain. That's the beauty of this place, makes complicated subjects, or the unknown, easily inderstandable. Thank you for the presentation!

Nice Missy.

"Would YOU subscribe to YOUR blog?"

I know I'm rocking the boat for saying this, but I'm not looking for subscribers.  I'm looking for business.  I want folks to find me when they search for "pasco farm properties'' or "kennewick buildings for sale" and the list goes on.  When we blog we are looking to garner longtail search returns.  Sure, we have the competitive phrases, but 94% of our traffic is coming from the longtail search query.

Missy,  What a great slide show!  Now this, I can almost understand, lol.  Loving those NOTES!  This really helps explain it in terms I can understand.  Thanks so much for sharing this with us.  You are always so full of great info :)

Posted by Elizabeth Cooper-Golden Huntsville AL MLS - (Huntsville Alabama Real Estate, (@ Homes Realty Group)) about 3 years ago

Missy- That was a nice presentation. This is SEO basics and all yet you can tell it is still coming from someone who speaks 'geeklish'. I have found with most agents that they can see this slide show and read the notes, but not 'get it'. When I translate this all to English, they then 'get it'.

SEO is a work in progress. It never ends. It is moving, changing, and working some more. It is the most exciting thing to see that all you have done is now paying off with being found on page one on SERPS and then closed biz from it. :)

Great stuff Missy. One can never have enough perspectives and info, and eventually, it starts to gel, some quicker than others -- I'm in the latter category! :-)

Wow! That is the big question: Would I follow my blog?

It's so important to make that 180 degree turn in perspective.

Posted by Daren Krause (Keller Williams Realty) about 3 years ago

I like the group idea, and it seems that yours is not one those good intentions that starts out, and then fewer and fewer participate. I would love to have a group like that in my backyard, and we would all read each others blogs and answer that question about subscribing. It is not enough that we are happy with our blog. I am about to turn on the video. Thanks.

Missy, That's an interesting question...would I subscribe to my blog? It makes me look at things differently.  I'm going to come back to watch the video, a little time challanged right now but thank you for the advice and words of wisdom. (And I'm going to keep that question in mind while writing!)

Missy... late to the party as usual...  lol  Just not commenting as much as I use to.... time consuming and just busy.. and a tad burnt out.  I want to focus on writing, not comments. Blogs bring me business. Which brings me to my main point that you mentioned. You stated... "Search Engine Optimization is not Rocket Science. I used that in one my presentations, it just takes time and diligence to keep at it."

Bingo... it takes time and you need to keep at it..  I love it when consumers tell me that they did multiple searches on the internet and that I am all over the place. I love it... it's like being a celebrity. ;o)  Thanks for sharing..

I am always looking to learn more about SEO.  I am on page 1 of google for most of my search terms which I check regularly.  I want to learn more about site maps though as that keeps coming up more and more - mine may be OK since I have good placement but always want to do better.   Thanks for sharing great info.
