Homeowners Insurance for Ann Arbor and Saline Buyers

A few months ago I looked at my Homeowners Insurance Policy and decide to get some new bids. I was able to save $600.00 on my annual policy.

I wasn't unhappy with my provider but right now I am all about saving money.

Watch this video is you are buying a home in the Ann Arbor Area or need to look at your policy. Everyone needs to review their policy from time to time. ( yearly is best )

Hi Missy, I'm wondering who you will go with. It's time for me to look into this also. I need a good idea.

Many people are complacent - but it often pays to shop around!  Oh also wanted to congratulate you/your daughter on her engagement! :)

Hi Missy!  Good for you to be on the ball about homeowners' insurance.  That is one of those things that once I'm in, I'm a customer for life--if you treat me right!  However, in this economy, it's smart to shop around AND revise the current policy as well.

Have a great weekend...

Hi Missy, I sure couldn't agree more the importance of checking these policies. Glad your lead to a savings as well. In Ca, the costs are getting preposterous and not only insurance but that is for another day. Like the insurance reminder for homeowners.

Hi Missy... this is GREAT advice.  I schedule an annual review of all my insurance with my insurance agent and each year I am amzed at how much I can save.  Congrats on a $600 savings.  Outstanding!

Missy.  This is important information for home owners everywhere.

I like comprehensive coverage with a VERY HIGH DEDUCTIBLE.

Saves money and provides good coverage.

The Howcast series is great. I love the one about preparing your home for sale.

Posted by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty) about 3 years ago

Jon, yes you can use it it is on Howcast.

Bill, I like all the Howcast video's, I'll check that one out.

Debe, me too....but when I checked I found out I could get it much less expensive and had to change. I had been with my company for 13 years.

Sally, (((clap, clap)))

Lenn, just trying to do more local specific posts and make my phone ring. But, yes it applies to everyone and everyones buyers. Thanks.

Lizette, I went with an Independant Agent who could shop around and not a big company.

Rebecca, I have now put all my cars there too. Better rate for multiple policies.

Timothy, we sent our Declaration's Over so it is the same coverage. Thanks important to know.

It is always a great idea to review all your insurance policies to make sure you have the proper coverage at a good price.

Hey Missy - I also changed insurance companies a few years back. Our homeowners insurance went up 5 percent one year, adn when Elizabeth called the agent who she had used for over 10 years, he didn't have a good answer why. We started checking woth other companies, and ended up saving thousands a year by swtching everything from travellers to Shelter. They gave us a discount because we had a high credit score and a new house. Both of those tend to be reasons for homeowners to have very few claims.

Posted by Larry Brewer Nashville Real Estate (Benchmark Realty LLc) about 3 years ago

I am doing that on two rent houses I have in Baton Rouge. It is especially important to an investor, because of the desire for positive cash flow. Some areas like Louisiana have much higher insurance because of recent hurricane damage claims, but all insurance companies are not in a price fixing scheme that would make it impossible to get cheaper insurance. Any Louisiana Realtor who has a recommendation please email me with any suggestions.

Missy, a 600. savings on your home owner's insurance is BIG!  I guess it pays to shop around, especially for insurance.  Have a great Saturday:-)

Missy - our agent got us great coverage, low deductibles and super rates by bundling the cars, the houses, the umbrella and the landlord packages.  Saved us about 52% all around.  We may, on occasion change carriers, but never agents.  Ours has been the best!

Not to mention I sold her and her husband their first house back years ago!  LOL

Posted by Carol Smith (Casmi Photography) about 3 years ago

I am all about the $$$ savings.  I had a client go with the "lenders" choice on a transaction, when they told me they didn't have time to shop around I said Call XXX they did and saved $400!  People always get to the end of a transaction and get worn out and just go with the flow which is usually the highest and don't realize they can make the switch because most homeowners have to allow the new lien holder to collect and pay.

In Florida State Farm filed to get out of the home insurance industry so there are alot of people scrambling to find another policy within the next year. For us unfortunately we HAVE to compare. We don't have much of a choice. However lucky for those who have the "luxury" of choosing on their own time and on their own volition :)

Missy - I'm on autopilot and that is not good for us sometimes because we tend to get lazy and ignore the fact you can save on homeowners insurance and even car insurance....My daughter, who is currently building a home got a quote for homeowners insurance far less what I pay.

Missy...

Nice find, and great video on homeowners insurance. Thanks for sharing. I'm not feeling the love from my insurance company of late. Time to look around and compare.

Thanks...

Missy, we are doing quotes right now for car insurance and homeowner's as well. We will be saving almost $1000 a year on our daughter's insurance when we switch it to her husband's account. Who knew? We had been helping them with it anyway and were just paying...

Missy, that must have felt good.  $600 is a big difference!  I tend to stay with the same insurer myself but will think about getting a few bids next time our premium is due. Thanks.

Missy, what a great reminder to reevaluate our homeowner's insurance -- it is something we often forget to do and just renew without doing our homework.

Congrats on your savings!

I've been doing this with my car insurance as well every year for the past 5 years and every year I get lower and lower! You also want to make sure the company you choose is financially strong or if something major happens, they may not be able to pay.

Missy:     Always love reading your posts!  Keep 'em coming ...      As a professional, I'm never upset or intimidated by a new or past customer comparing my facts and figures against anothers.  In fact, I encourage it.  I am confident that I will retain my past customers and gain new ones through this measure.

I find, that in most cases these shoppers return to me knowing for a fact that they are receiving the best rate/closing quote for themselves.  They also understand that they are getting a higher quality of advice and service than elsewhere.  Even though we all have a need to save money (especially right now), we also need to remember that we need to get advice and service provided during the crunch times, or it's not really a savings of dollars at all.  It actually could end up costing us more.  I believe that many times when those comparisons are made, in the end it is the difference in the quality of my service that drives my customers back to me, not just the savings.

Thanks again for your great posts and insights.

Good advice about shopping your insurance but as others have cautioned look at your quality of coverage also. I have experienced the total destruction of a home and was glad that I had paid just a little more for the coverage that I had. Thanks for the post.

Once you have found a better price, go back to your present insurance company and tell them, a lot of the time they will match or beat it just to keep you.
