Tuesday my husband was given a pink slip from Belleville High School. He is history teacher and social studies teacher. He is tenured.
I was shocked
The schools in Michigan are handing out a lot of pink slips including: Flint 257, Detroit 600, Pontiac everyone, Lansing 170.
Last year at Belleville High School, (where he teaches) they didn't let enough teachers go so in October after the enrollment count they had to redo classes. Mike was not one of them.
When they change the class sizes some students go and some classes are dropped and it is disruptive. So this year they are letting 90 go and then hiring back.
If you are pinked slipped and hired back you can still be let go in October after the enrollment count.
Can you stay unstable?
I don’t want your sympathy but your advice, prayers and help.
I want to see if Social Media (which we all hail) can get my husband a job.
In Tennessee
Most of you know I am from the South and we have hoped to move back there when we retired if not before.
So I am asking you if you know anyone in Tennessee, the Nashville Area to please pass along my husband’s name. We have looked and there are 5 History teaching positions available in the Nashville, Williamson County Area, which he is applying for.
However, it is not what you know but WHO YOU KNOW.
A little bragging:
My husband is an outstanding teacher. Every year his classes fill up and if a student is removed for scheduling issues…mom and dad demand they be put back in Mr. Caulk’s class.
Mike does all of his lesson plans on Power Point, uses YouTube and the news this week by Uncle Jake. He is a fun, and an engaging history teacher. Making the subject come alive for his students.
Everyday at school for 5 years, he would check out the over-head projector so this year, the administration bought him one. I can count on my ONE hand the days he has missed in the last 6 years, even returning the day after he had stints put in his heart.
Social Media is more than Twitter, more than FaceBook it is like attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting that extends outside four walls.
Can Social Media help find Mike A JOB?
They say if you want to adopt a baby tell everyone you know. So I am telling everyone I know. Any help would be so appreciated, especially if you know anyone in the Nashville area that teaches, a principal or works in Administration. ( If you do I will email you his resume.)
When one door closes, another one opens so we are thinking and hoping this might be an open door to move and settle in TN. First of all we are believing God will open a door if we are to move forward with a job in Tn. But, we know He works through people, so hence my appeal to you here on Activerain.
I figure if Jay McGullicuddy can find his birth mother and Brad Andersohn his brother,....
ALL things are Possible on Activerain.

I hope this works. Our schools are doing the same thing-Dinah Lee
Missy, I am shocked that a tenured teacher with the obvious passion your husband has received a pink slip. So far here in Clay County the tenured teachers have their jobs but those under five years are being let go. You will be in my prayers for a new job for your husband.
Missy - I sincerely hope that Mike finds a dream teaching job in Nashville. All of my contacts there are from AR, so you probably know them, too! I'll be praying for you guys.
Missy, I'm going to retweet your link. I know God will provide something good; just waiting expectantly to see what it is.
Sharon, They can let you go if the District needs it for financial reasons.
Missy, I'm sorry. I hope this works out for you and your husband.
Missy: Check out Clarksville Montgomery County Schools.. Still builing new schoold in our area.. Always a need for teachers.. www.CMCSS.net
Missy I am SO sorry to read this news. Best of luck with the job hunt. (And good luck to you as you study for the TN real estate license, which I imagine you are going to do!).
Missy, I'm so sure that this is just to open your eyes to the door that is about to be opened for you! Anything at all is possible! I'll reblog to get the word out a little more for you! My prayers are with you and Mike :)
Missy, my Mom is Human Resource Director of Knox County Government. I don't know if she knows anyone in Nashville, but I'll check. If you want to send me his resume, I'll get it to her.
Missy, I am shocked. What a sad state affairs we have. You know the saying, when a door closes, look for the window! By golly, I think you have. I will make some calls Monday to see if any of my friends have connections in the local school boards. I personally do not, but surely someone does that I know. How exciting! (moving to Tennessee). I know some great Realtors, lol. Will you stick with KW? I just know this is going to work out and things will be fabulous for you. I feel it. Good things happen to good people!
I'll post this link on Facebook where all my Nashville friends are. Gotta love Social Networking!
I'm praying now for you guys. I don't have to tell you God works in myterious ways, but oft' times these uncertain events bring the most amazing peace and trust that only God can bring. I hope I see the future blog post that tells of the great things (yet) to take place.
Well, I don't suppose our Buckeye Country would appeal, but I'll certainly try. At least we're a few hours closer to TN. Maybe say a prayer by that statue off I-75 the next time you're driving by.
Good luck to you and also in securing work for your husband, whether it be in Michigan or Tenn. Look back in a year or two, and God willing, pink will still be your favorite color..
Missy, this sounds like a huge loss for Belleville High School and a big gain for some kids in Tennessee. Prayers and hugs going your way!
Missy, So sorry to hear about your husband. My son-in-law is a high school teacher here in Mount Vernon and fortunately our enrollment is stable. The neighboring school districts are having to let teachers go though. One never knows and that is why we will uphold one another in prayer. I have relatives in Indiana, but my uncle was let go from his principal position in a private school too. Prayers coming your way for a door to open up!
Missy, all my best wishes to you and your family. Believing that will get you through, as we never know where that door or window will open. Prayers for you and hoping ya'll find the right answer for your family soon. (Texas still has good real estate and I hadn't heard of teachers being laid off, yet) I know its not Tennessee but it does start with a T. :) (yes, we are slower than we were before last september but it is still moving)
Missy, I just thought of another option. If you go to www.christianjobs.com and you can see jobs available or you can post a resume too.
Missy as the old saying goes when one door closes another one opens... Not much consolation though I'm sure for Mike (right now anyway). It never feels good when that happens. But with you being the wind beneath his wings and AR fanning the breeze - he'll be sailing again in no time! Wish I could help - but I will be sending along thoughts and prayers! Please keep us posted.
Hi Missy
Not very stable for your husband.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Hi Missy, I don't know of anyone in Tennessee that could help- but I wanted to share my sincere wishes that things will work out for the best, maybe this pink slip is the ticket to get you home. Best of Luck for a happy future in Tennessee!
Sounds like a great teacher. I hope he finds a job soon.
I hope my husband finds a job soon as well.
Missy, I wish I knew someone in the Tennessee area. I am sorry that I do not but I will be watching for your tweets and will gladly retweet them...
Ohh, Missy I am so sorry, I am sure your husband will be able to find something. Maybe he can write an e-book for all your social media work, or do some webinars with you on social media. I know I would sign up, if the teaching thing doesn't come through. Anyways, I wish you the best and my prayers will be with you and your family.
-Lisa
Hi Missy -- I will keep both of you in my thoughts. You husband sounds absolutely amazing. What about contacting the school districts directly? E-mailing the superintendent or lead administrator in each district? What about monster or careerbuilder? I don't know if there are any specialized recruiting websites for teachers? What about contacting the various top AR members directly in the county you are interested in and perhaps since they are local, their contacts are deep in the community?
In 1983 after the oil bust which is akin to your manufacturing mayhem, many bumper stickers proclaimed, will the last one leaving Oklahoma please turn out the lights. It was painful for a decade or more, but we have roared back as will your part of the country. I don't know about who still has money up there but I have an idea. Your husband should start a babysitting/tutoring company and get pink slipped teachers in different fields to have all types of learning covered. When someone needs a babysitter, they also get personal tutoring. The combo could be cheaper than hiring it separately. I would think that lots of people in Michigan are working as two income families plus some second jobs, and this type of service will come in handy. I have felt your pain but just know it will get better.
Missy, will be praying for all you to come on down south too!
Missy, sorry to hear this. I have reblogged this to spread the word as far as possible. Thanks for sharing so we can help.
Missy, I wish you well and check with all your Tennessee Active Rain contacts. It is a shame teachers are let go but it is about money of course not his great credentials. It always disturbs me with billions of dollars going other places that education in so many of our local communities and states gets the big shaft. Did you say Pontiac everyone?? Does it seem that bad there? Good luck, and you and your family are in my prayers.
Hi Missy~ I do have a connection in the Memphis,TN area. Would you consider moving to that area? (Shelby County area) Not sure if there are any History teachers needed there, but I certainly would consider asking on your behalf if you would consider the Shelby County area of TN. Send me a private email with his resume if you want me to check into it. Vickie
Oh No!! This economy is forcing so many to take drastic action to support their families ... I sincerely hope he finds something soon. Has he considered or looked into online teaching or tutoring?
You are absolutely right about it not being only 'what' you know - networking is crucial......and so what if you were put on A/R for such a time as this? I am absolutely confident something will come of us -better then you can even imagine! I can see the writing on....... :-)
Will you take a look at your re'blogs' on this already? the MACHINE is in motion!
Missy,
Sorry to hear about your husband's loss. I too am a history and social studies teacher, and it sounds like I could learn a few things from him. Maybe while we're looking to find him a new job in Tennesssee, I can pick his brain a litte? :-)
Of course, we are also praying for the both of you as anytime something like this happens it can be awfully stressful.
Another question: what is the union doing about it?
Missy... damn, reading this, I have tears. And I guess it's because I know you and have gotten to know you well enough over the years. I wish I could help, but I only know of one person in Tennessee. But they do live near the Nashville area and I have to get a hold of my mom who is good friends with someone I was once friends with up until my 8th grade, when him and his family moved. And they stayed good friends.
In any case, I am truly sorry to hear and my thoughts and prayers are with you, Mike, and your family. Hey, just a thought.... could Mike do something on youtube really quick, as a quick fun pleasing interview? And what about your real estate business that you seemed to have built up so well? Well, I know you would do very well no matter where you went. With your knowledge, your personality, with your blogging, and social media networking skills, .... you would do fine. Getting a hold of my mom now.
Missy - anything is possible, and it's good to put this social media to the test, I just hate to see that it's at the expense of Mike's job and career. I will keep my feellers out there, my eyes and ears open, and both of you in my thoughts and prayers. You know the song, "All Things Are Possible" so just keep humming that tune, and let the world and the good Lord do the rest!! :-)
Hi Missy, I was involved with NAR for quite some time and I will look through to see if I know anyone there. No currently working in NAR, I tend to forget where evryone is from. Some of the Tenn state leadership in real estate might be able to help, maybe not but it certainly would do no harm in trying. Check out the local real estate associations and let the EO's know of your intentions of relocating and see where they might direct you. Others have sggested that our own network might be able to help. If there is a way, I am confident people will get the word out. We all try to help each other here and I will see who I can locate that might be able to help. All the best Missy!
Missy, Sorry to hear this about Mike's job. It should be interesting to see if this works for you guys. My bet is that it does. Are you licensed in TN?
Good luck, I sure hope it works out for him. You know a good Realtor to help you sell your house? I could give you a referral! ;)
Nashville??? (Said in the same incredulous voice as the Redneck in DELIVERANCE said AINTREE??? haha
I thought you were committed to Michigan and the Saline area At least that's the MARKETING HYPE on your website. You bragged about what a GREAT place the Ann Arbor/Saline area was to live, talked about how much you love it here and want others to live her too. Tried to sell as many homes as possible to people in this area.
Then one day your man loses his job (I read it's been happening lately haha) and all of a sudden you're not only willing to get the heck out of Dodge but actually SOLICITING help to BAIL out of the area as fast as you can.
Wow!
As someone of intergrity, can you EXPLAIN this?
I just read this. The Ky Derby is on and I'm almost calling you. I'll wait for now.
I am a religious person only in private, but I do believe the same as you. We don't understand the events but they are there for a reason and I am so glad Kase dealt with the auto pink slips waaaaay before any one else but Kase moved on to happiness outside of Ford by the time everyone else did.
I am so sorry for all you. I know how hard it is. Talk to me when you are free.
Missy...
I am also sorry to hear this. And just so you know I started praying when you told me too. It's good to know what I am praying for. I can be more direct that way. My money is on Social Media being the thing that does the trick. Personally, I would contact Jim Lee about this. Send him a contact message or give him a call. If he can help or guide you in some way, he will.
TLW...ROAR!
Missy,
Missy you have been such a wealth of information to me, now I would love to return the favor. Have him stay with Williamson County or even look at Sumner County. Metro is talking layoffs for next year.
I lived in Williamson County for 5 years and now live in Sumner County for the last year. I know of some principals and teachers in both counties through my kids sports and school. Send his resume my way and I can email it to teachers I know in Williamson County.
Tennessee will love having you!
Sorry to hear your news. It sounds as though he is a great teacher and will find another post. Iwish we had history teachers like him in the school districts here. We have coaches that teach history because they have to teach something.
OMG.... this Marty Appleman character. How rude and thoughtless. This just put my faith out there that there are real arses in this world.
If I can speak on behalf of MISSY... yes, she does believe in her area, believe in Michigan and Saline.. and the people of Saline and Michigan. Yes, she brags about it and so much more... She knows her area very well and is proud of it.
Yet... family comes first and some people know the difference about sacrificing their true love for others and or to just survive the many crisis's that come across our paths.
Missy, I hope you don't delete that comment, and live it for all to see, that there are crued and rude people. I wouldn't wish what happened to Mike on my worst enemy. And I wish this person would show their face. Keep the faith and we'll talk soon.
I apologise. I made thte last comment without login in and so it is anonymous
Reading this post and the thread after makes a tear drop from my eye. I hate witnessing this stuff. Missy, we don't agree on some things but I hope you realize that I love you and have learned so much from you. Hubbie will be okay. You have the ideal forum to correct the problem. Mike seems worth his weight, let there be gold.
I'll get the word out from my end.
Missy, if there is anyone I would want to help out, it would be you... I know that your husband has to be a good guy because YOU are married to him.
My Nashville schools connection isn't there any more (he went from their IT support to the Army in Iraq last year). But if you decide that Gwinnett County is close enough... I might be able to know some people.
Missy, let me know which schools. I have several clients that are teachers and I can see if any of them can help. Don't know anyone on the school board but I'll ask around at the office. We actually need teachers down here!
Sorry for the circumstances, but will be happy to have you here!
Missy,
I believe, as you obviously do, that things happen for a reason. You may be directed to the Nashville area or there may be something else in store for your family, but whatever it is, keep your positive outlook and keep reaching out. My prayers are with you in this unexpected turn of events.
Missy - so sorry to hear this story we are hearing too many times. No connections at my end with Nashville but have friends from that area so will check wtih them. You never know.
Sometime life circumstances come along and change our pans, and perhaps this is the time for you. We've moved several time sin teh past when jobs came along.
I will be in touch with you if I can come up with any direct help, but meanwhile we are keeping you in our thoughts.
Jeff
Missy, Good luck. I think the High School just lost a huge asset. Good teachers who are passionate about what they do are hard to find. Heck just loving being a teacher is hard. The next school is going to be more than lucky to have your husband.
Wow, Missy! I am so sorry to hear of this development. You and Mike will have my prayers for sure.
I don't know a soul in Nashville, but you have certainly sounded the alarm in the right forum. There are thousands of great folks here on AR (as you already know!) and I'm sure if there is a position in Nashville for Mike ... well, it will happen here!
I'm going to re-blog this in hopes that the added exposure will help! God bless to you and yours!
Thanks I will email his resume to all who asked and you can pass it along. Right now there are job postings in Williamson County and Sumner County which would be fine. Anywhere in the Nashville area. All of your comments bring tear to MY eyes, thanks !!
Marty, you do what needs to be done for your family. Of course I love Ann Arbor/Saline and I would continue to have my team up here. We had planned on staying here until retirement which is 10 years away. Perhaps if you had 5 children, most on dad's health insurance you would understand. If you read the post you would see how many districts are laying off teachers. Should and IF he was called back we would stay but my family HAS and will continue to come FIRST always.
BB, I only have to take Broker Prep and I am good to go. One advantage of having a brokers license.
Missy...
Sometimes the worst events in life take us into new adventures! I too, hope to move to Tennessee one day, and to me, sooner would be better than later.
It's not the end of the world, it's the closing of a chapter. And I hope that the next one reads like a fairy tale!
Wow what a bummer Missy. I am quite sure everything is going to work out just fine. Life has a funny way of working things like this out. Best of luck to you and your hubby:)
May your health continue to be strong as your resolve. Left hand turns always turn out to be right. Chin up
Missy, What a bummer!!! I would love to have you move to here to Twang City. I know a lot of good KW folks where you can hang your shingle. I do know some folks that know some folks. I will certainly put my feelers out to see what I can do to help...
You know this is what is still wrong with the world. Great teachers who get packed out classes each year, with 'parents' who trust him implicitely, and these are the people who we want to 'stop' teaching our kids ???
Just bitterly unfair Missy, and I wish you all the very best for your family - I know there is a silver lining out there for you, Mike and your family.
Sheldon
Missy, I'm so sorry to hear this....and of course send my blessings. It is true it's who you know and I do believe there are only six degrees; I'mhoping you find exactly the six you need!
Missy--My husband is originally from West Branch, MI and we have friends in Ann Arbor. Good luck with your search. This economy is hurting so many ...
Sorry to read about your husband Missy. I would say come over to California and find a job for your husband but we have all our problems over here as well. In fact I saw a huge pink protest near my house a couple months ago. I'll have you and your husband in our prayers.
Hi Missy.
Wow. Sorry for your husband's recent job loss. Unfortunately it is happening everywhere. I hope he finds work soon.
Aloha, Lana
Missy - What a shame. So sorry to hear the news. I'm afraid I can't help but to offer a reminder one of my clients recently quotes to me after she lost her job "one one door closes, another one opens." Tennessee is calling you sooner than you had thought.
Missy, I wish you and Mike the best with your search. I know that so many here on AR respect you and your hard work, they would have no problem recommending Mike and passing along his information. Sadly, this economy takes it's toll on far too many good hardworking people, but you learn to adjust and look for opportunities elsewhere. I sincerely wish you and your family the best.
Missy, you are in my prayers. Hang in there!
God already has a plan so dont let fear get you off track....all of this will work out with faith . You have faith ==I witnessed it when your daugher was in that horrible wreck...look how beautifully healed she is! Gods plan is bigger than that classroom Mike has to leave. I'll be praying for you and your family...
Hi Missy,
This sucks. I really hope things work out. What about Northeast Tennessee? Johnson City area? Would that interest you? I have connections in the school system here. I'l be in A2 first week in June- would really like to meet you. Cindy
Missy, I'm sure that with both of your skills, Mike will land a new job in new time in Tennessee. I'm sorry to hear about this news and am certain that new and better things are to come.
OMG -- this is not a good thing -- but it happening all over ------ you guys are in our thoughts-- think positive -- something good will come.
Missy I don't know anyone there, but I will pray for you, you can count on that.
Missy - Thoughts and prayers are on the way. Best of luck with the job search. Hope you will keep us posted on the progress.
Missy, You guys are going at this in a great way. I am hopeful that this blog will result in what you need happening. Great job of putting the word out. I'm praying for you as I type.
Missy, I read this over on Fran's blog but wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to you and your family directly. I know you will get through these difficult times.
Missy, About 4 years ago, my husband lost his job without much warning. I found out when I called him at work and his voice mail was turned off and I heard the message "Lou Szabo no longer works for xyz company". I was shocked and then I cried for about a day and a half and then I remembered that he lost his job and not his life and not our daughter. So we stopped spending money on unnecessary items, prayed together (for direction from our good Lord) and 3 months later he had a job with equal pay, a company car, and an extra week's vacation, (neither of which he had at the other job.) I know it's hard for you but my advice to you is to be Mike's cheering section. My husband said it felt like a punch to his stomach when he found out and I know it was a blow to him personally so he really needed my support. It should be no probelm for you because it's obvious how much you love him. Good luck and I will be praying for you.
Missy, you have many many friends and I pray that you and your family will be ok. Things may get rough for a spell but haven't we all had to deal with very difficult times? Keep your faith strong and the right door will open for you and yours.
Brian.
Missy, you have my support and prayers! My brother teaches middle school history in the Jefferson County school system here in Alabama. I will ask him if he has any ideas or connections in Nashville. I also know a high school music teacher in Nashville that I will try to contact.
Want to acknowledge you for being so vulnerable and sharing what obviously is very painful right now. And then not whining but getting into "action" right away. What character you have. I see why everyone loves you so. I know it will work out for both of you. Good luck.
I am sorry to hear. A lot of schools hear are laying off as well. Sad to see people who love to teach and love children be let go! Will reblog and spread the word!
Missy - Praying all works out by divine purpose.
Blessings,
Paula
Marty Appleman - get a life - no one is more passionate about their city or business than Missy!
Miissy I am sorry. Unexpected and very unpleasant. In that school district what does "tenured" mean. I always throught it had to do with salary protection/guarantees. That even if there was no job line they had to pay you.......I am sure you have looked into this but am curious.
My prayers are with you
Missy, when I think of Ann Arbor MI...I think of you. But, like you said, your family comes first. and, if you have to move so be it. God works in mysterious ways...my prayers go out to you and your family.
That is scary Missy! Good luck to y'all! Las Vegas is always in need of good teachers even though it may not be your dream destination.
Missy, Good thoughts are with you and Mike. Would love to see this post picked up by major media.
I know you're probably still in shock, Missy, but like you said... when one door closes, another opens. I've seen that happen so many times, and I have no doubt it will for you both!
Missy~
Your husband (and YOU of course) are GEMS... A2 is losing some amazing talent...and as Margaret says...there's an open space calling...
I'm on it with my "list" and lots of them are old teachers like me...
Well Missy and Mike,
We would invite you to come out here to the Seattle area, but since our State Budget is 9 Billion overdone, and since the state is supposed to be funding basic education and haven't been doing that, NOW lots of school districts are laying off everyone with 5 years or less experience. Class sizes are going up. Some of the 5 year teachers are going to be hired back, but.... Anyway it would get you closer to at least one of your kids. (and the new grandkid) Sorry, I have zero connections in Nashville.
List and Sell (but I will reblog this because you never know who will know someone who knows someone who knows just the right person) Gary@ RentonHomeFinder.com
PS remember, God is in charge of all of this and He already knows the right path for your family
Hey there Missy - I am very sorry to hear the unfortunate news for you and your family. No matter where you end up I believe you will always be on top.
Marty's comment is totally uncalled for. I hope you do not delete his comment.
Marty you have just shown your true colors to the entire WWW
Missy, I know no one in Tennessee, but I do think this is a great idea to share the news! So many, many people are being hit hard in the wallet....this so sucks. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you at least. ;-) We are family after all. ;-)
Missy, hopefully this situation leads y'all to bigger and better. Here in Greater New Orleans, I know all the local parishes here are looking for great teachers, just a thought.
Sent you an email but wanted to tell you here also that I am shocked (although I didn't think anything could possibly shock me anymore with this states economy).
Any school district and the kids would be blessed to have Mike. I know you didn't plan on moving until retirement age but sometimes life just happens and we do what we have to do.
Hugs to my dear friend.
Missy, good luck to you. I've reblogged and let any one who could possible help know.
Know that our thoughts are with you...as well as our prayers. We don't have any connections in Tennessee...but of course folks in AR do...we had someone recently relocate to WI who teaches and there were a number of licensing hoops to jump and I am sure you have looked into those...My Dad used to say...Look at every knock as a boost...and we know it will be for your family as well.
Good Luck to you Missy. Did they offer a buy out package? If so take it and run for those TN hills. You will find somthing there I know you will.
Missy, So So Sorry to hear about your husband, I know how it is in Michigan and it isn't going to get better, My husband will most likely loose his job soon with Delphi and so we are planning and trying to figure out what to do, My prays and good thought for it all to work out are with you. People don't know how bad Michigan is with the car company's shutting down, the effect on everyone else. Schools, medical etc.
Overworked and underpaid. Sorry for the miss fortune. We are in one of the rare areas with new schools opening and hiring potential, google Forsyth County Schools GA. The real estate business is not so bad either. It's not TN but close! Good Luck!
Missy
Best of luck with the job search. I've learned that life's challenges, even the greatest of them, are somehow doors being opened that lead to great new beginnings.
I'm looking forward to a post from you sharing good news. It will happen. Good things ultimately happen to good people.
Your friend
Ed Ryb
Miissy, While I am so very sorry for you and your husband, I must admit I am a bit excited about having you living closer to me! I have yet to visit Nashville but I do have clients from there who I will contact to see if they have any ideas. I'm sure your husband is an exceptional teacher, I honestly can't believe they would let him go!
Missy, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that in the end, it all works out for you. My sons school is also letting go of 12 teachers..:(
Missy, this is all you needed with all the weddings! My guess is that you'll be sending Mike's resume down the social media tube within no time. Start packing for Tennessee!
Missy, My prayers are with you
Missy, best wishes to you..I come from a family of teachers and know how unsettling this can be. I think you're right about a door opening, hopefully you will look back on this and say it was a good thing.
Missy, of course I was born and raised here and live here. Please go to my linked in page and check my connections to see if there are any intorductions that can help. I will forward you husbands bio to some folks that I know on the boards of a few private schools in and around Nashville.
Father Ryan, Ensowrth, MBA, Harpeth Hall, University School, FRA and BGA.
Email me and let me know when you are coming down...I would love to meet you.
Bo

Missy,
Hope you find a job, and I will be praying for your family. Does he get to finish out the year?
I live and work in the Knoxville, Tn. area! Good Luck!
XXXOOO
If you ever want to move to the big Cheese (WI) MPS is always looking for teachers!
It looks like Connie already responded, and she was the first one I thought of. I'll see if I can come up with anyone else. Good luck.
Missy: Wow, it is happening everywhere... A different recession was the reason I went from teaching to the title industry! As it turned, it was a good move. I'm not sure I know anyone in the Nashville area, but I will work my network. Best wishes for you and Mike.

Wow, Missy. I thought teaching jobs were stable?! I use to be a teacher as well. Sounds like your husband is one of the good ones! I wish him the best, I am sure he will find something.
Yup...it happened to my husband a year ago....luckily he was hired quickly. I have no doubt your talented husband will get something quick :) Thoughts and prayers (heavily) across the miles.
Social media and the internet will be able to help since what better way to find jobs long distance. 15 years ago, you would have had to travel to each city, get a newspaper, drop off resumes, and then sit by the land line and wait, and wait, and wait.
Use as many online applications and job posting sites as possible.
Best of luck!
Missy - That's gotta be the ugliest shade of pink I've ever seen. Good things are going to happen for you. I just know they are. Mike has given out way too much good over the years not to get an extra helping of it back now that it's his turn. And I just may see you in Nashville! We'll have to learn how to talk "southern." Laraine
Good luck with the job search, Missy. Unfortunately, I don't live in nor do I know anyone personally in Nashville or I'd love to hook your husband up. He sounds like a wonderful teacher (we have several in my family and spend Christmas dinner with even more every year). It's wrong to let the good ones go.
Missy - I'm in Lynchburg, VA but I'm going to RE-Blog and RT so who knows. Maybe someone will pick up and forward to just the right person. My mother was a teacher and my daughter-in-law is a special ed teacher at Heritage High School in Lynchburg. Of course you are in my thoughts and prayers. Probably your path is changing for a reason but boy those bumps hurt!!! The very best of luck and please keep us in the know!
Kathy
Monika,
I have reblogged your post and I hope that we will be able to help. Good luck ma'am.
Missy, You and Mike are in my families thoughts and prayers.
Rick and I have moved 9 times in our 15 yrs of marriage and know how crazy and scary a job loss and move can be. I have reblogged this post and will help try and get the word out.
In our prayers!!
Alice
Best to Mike in the search...it is strange, but when seemingly unfortunate things happen it is often a path to a greater opportunity. I hope and pray that your new opportunity is coming around soon. Blessings!
I was a teacher myself and got the pink slip as the smaller schools consolidated and cut positions. Good luck with your search and a move -it will happen.
Missy, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband! I grew up in Michigan (Grand Blanc) and most of my family is still there trying to hold to their jobs. It's horrible! I'm sure that you'll husband will find something in Tenneesee -- especially now that you've put the word out to your VERY large network!
Hi Missy...As much as a love being a REALTOR I wish at this moment I was superintendent of schools in Nashville. You two would be planning your move to Tenn.
Kate
There are so many upsetting stories lately everywhere. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I remember a saying my grandmother told me and that was.....God never takes away something good without giving something better back Words to live by.
Lots of luck,
Patricia Aulson/Portsmouth NH Real Estate
Missy, I will join in with Roland and other Tennessee Realtors to spread the word. We would love to welcome your family to Clarksville!
Missy - You are so great on social networking and I believe your husband will find wor,. These a tough times but they won't last. I will pray for your husband. Mine is working but isn't getting paid at the moment because the state is not paying for the work they are doing. We have been here before and we made it. I have real estate and my side business but I still need his income. I wish it was different. I will keep you both in my prayers. My friend's husband got laid off and he got a job within 6 weeks. Another friend lost hers after 17 years but she is on her 3rd interview. God will make a way where there seems to be no way.
Missy, Sorry to hear the news. Social media and networking are the way to go and with your network I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make a few connections already.
This just pisses me off. School teachers out of work? This is BS! Educators are not expendable! God I hope he gets hired soon.. such a waste of needed talent, coaching and important expertise
Missy....I am sure with all these resources that Mike will find something. It is a hard thing when something like this comes out of the blue, and to the main breadwinner. I pray something will work out....if it's ment to be, it will be one way or another.
Missy, I know that God will see you through...He's the Waymaker. You and Mike are in my prayers.
Family DOES come FIRST (who is that Marty guy anyway???) Let's just hope he doesn't have family..enough of that gene pool!
I wish I had connections in Nashville. Knoxville yes..Nashville, no. I'll keep my antenna up for you!
Love you!
Missy - Everyone is pulling for you and Mike! We need more teachers just like him in our school systems especially when it comes to history!! I may not have any connections in the Tennessee area but I just reblogged your post. The more the word gets out there, the quicker we can open up the door for Mike to another teaching position.
Missy,
Good luck to you and your husband in his search for employment in Tennessee... I don't know anyone there however, there are many job search engines out there... www.jobs.com, www.jobsonline.com, www.monster.com, www.job-search-engine.com, www.hotjobs.com, www.careerbuilder.com, www.simplyhired.com, www.getthejob.com, www.jobcab.com, www.nationjob.com, www.hound.com, www.worktree.com, www.linkstojobs.com, www.resumerabbit.com.
Just to name a few.
Good luck!
Hi Missy--I am SO sorry to hear about this and know that you and your hubby will be in my prayers and that you are loved (obviously with 132 comments ALREADY!) You do so much for so many--you know that He'll come through for you and your family. I think social media will be your answer and I will just be curious to see just how fast it works for your hubby.
Connie could be quite helpful too--being from the area.
Another option would be--if you love the South, come to Charlotte baby! We'd make a HECK of a team and have a blast! (And, I'm NOT kidding).
Missy,
So sorry. Would love to have your family in Lexington, TN. We are getting relocations galore from Michigan.
Things happen for a reason......a new opportunity will arise.
My prayers are with your family.
I think its a good time to form a team for real estate. You can go hire him right now! This is crazy with all our educators getting pink slips. I don't know anyone in that area but looks like you are getting it out there!
Missy...I should have responded earlier. You know my gig with the surgery and all. Don't know what to say and don't know anyone down in TN. I'll pray. Just know that everything happens for a reason. You'll be looking back at this at some point and will be glad that you/he were forced into a situation for the better. I've already prayed for you 2.
I hope your husband is able to find something. My husband teaches at our local high school and supposedly they're not letting anyone go this year...but we'll just have to wait and see. Good luck!
Missy,
I am in the same boat as you. We were reloed to Northern VA less than two years ago by my husband's new company. Well, lo and behold in September they did a major RIF and guess who was part of it? You guessed it. My husband!
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers during this tough time for you. Keep your sense of humor and explore other options as well.
Keep us posted.
Missy - I have experienced a couple lay-offs in my life, and they certainly feel disruptive, and aren't fun. However, when I look back at the experience, I can honestly say that I ended up in a better place or position, afterward. My last experience was 3 1/2 years ago. Just before the layoff, the company had been going through so many erratic and uncomfortable changes, that I was totally exhausted. Then I remembered - that job I had been at for 8 1/2 years was supposed to have been a temporary job lasting only 3 months. I did manage to keep going with real estate as well, but now I was free to devote much more quality time to my career.
Missy, Along with just about everybody else here, my prayers are with you and your family!
Missy-
Don't forget Wilson County Tennessee! We have the second highest rated school system in the state + Cumberland University too.
I'm not sure who we might know that could be of help but I'lll ask Gary and my wife.
I do know Walter Egan. He wrote the song "Magnet and Steel" and he is also a sub teacher in The Williamson county schools.
Missy, with 140 comments I'm not going to read them all. I came over to find the post you wrote about your new blog to foward to Ann but then got detained reading this post. I don't know anyone in TN but I can keep you in my prayers my friend. Our God is an Awesome God! It will be interesting to see what he has in store for you and Mike.
Anyone who is looking for a Teacher in the Ann Arbor Michigan area, Nashville area would be lucky to have an outstanding teacher like your Husband. We will think good thoughts and hope he finds a great job!
Hi Missy,
Jamestown isn't Nashville, but I can surely put out my feelers for you if you would like me too!!
Kathy B
Jamestown Tennessee and surrounding areas on the Cumberland plateau
Missy- I reblogged your post so that more people can read it. I have some readership in Tennessee so it may get to the right person there who will help. I know that this is in God's plan. When I read your post, I got a strong sense of peace, knowing this is just a pathway to your dream. You are in our prayers. We love you and know that your husband will be led to the right job. Tennessee is a great state politically and socially for your family. It is a good choice, if you know what I mean. I have clients who bought hundreds of acres of land there and they told me all about why they are moving there. It is biz friendly too. Katerina
Well you know what they say, when one door closes, another one opens. You guys will be starting a whole new chapter of your lives and it will be exciting and rewarding. Good luck with the changes.
Missy I will miss you in Michigan if you leave us.... I don't want to be number two this way. but I hope you and your husbands dreams are fulfilled. I know you really want to go may God help find you the way.
Missy, sorry if I duplicate any other sentiments- too many comments to read. I am terribly shocked that even teachers are not immune to this recession. Good luck to you in TN. Maybe this was part of the big plan to motivate you and give you a new direction?
Missy - I thought teaching jobs were among the more stable professions right now along with health care. Seems like everything we used to be able to count on is no longer there. Life is throwing too many curveballs lately. This will be a real test of social networking. I'll bet it works!
I came to check and see which job offer he's going to take?;-)
I just quickly went through the comments............wow - I don't think there is anyone on here more well loved then you! must warm your heart and soul..:-) I've never seen so many re-blogs there aren't enough green circles!
Missy, I'm sorry about the news and I know you said you didn't want sympathy. I feel bad for being such a "friend" who found out about this only so many days later. Havent really had too much Rain time.
I was in the Nashville/ Brentwood area 2 weeks ago for a Dave Ramsey counselor training event. It looks to be a very nice, serene place to set the next phase in your lives.
I will continue to petition on Mike's behalf. He might just try to get a job with the Dave Ramsey team, even though they are not in education per se, but everyone there operates with consistency and a heart of a teacher. I was simply amazed.
Oh sorry I'm late! I am so disheartened to read of the pink slip. I know that his light won't remain hidden under a bushel, and God is in TN too! All the best of care and encouragement to you and your (half-engaged!) family, Missy, and especially for your hubby. I'm certain he is as passionate about his work as you are compassionate about yours. TN won't be that far away from Auburn, so you let me know any ways that I can help or make things easier, anytime, ok?
When one door opens, another closes...that just about sums it up! Better things are ahead for both of you, of that I am sure!
Hi Missy-I know I am late but I wanted to know that I am thinking of you! :) I know everything will be OK...if anyone can get results with social media its you! My testimonial and I am sticking with it!
Missy, we have been through this: lost everything - job, house, car, and practically the family. What i want to speak to you is this: LIFE always comes out of death, and ALL things work together for GOOD for them that love the Lord and are "the called" according to His purpose.
In our own minds, (which the Lord tells us NOT to lean to), we select logical answers that are so far away from how God thinks! I did not come to grieve with you or offer sympathy.... I am writing to express that this is the time to STAND (with your weapons on of course)... and to REJOICE! Why rejoice? Because God says to do it in all things and all the time! (Besides, our God is so worthy). It's in rejoicing that you will find our strength to stand! Rejoicing (praise) is a powerful weapon!! Rejoice, in the midst of all of this and WATCH what God does! - A powerful testimony awaits!
Diane
I am shocked!! I haven't been on AR in a while and checking out many of your recent posts - so sorry to hear this - it touches us all in some way. As you described, I can imagine what a good teacher Mike is - and I am sure you share so much on how to bring these tools into the classroom etc. Sometimes things work out for the best - and I am standing for Mike finding a great job in Tennessee where you really want to be. My thoughts and prayers are with both of you. Your strong faith will create what's next - I am sure.
While in high school, I had a wonderful history teacher that brougth the past to life. He was my favorite. My sister is a teacher in Florida, and she worries all the time if her job is safe. I don't know any one in Nashville, but you and your family are in my thougths and prayers.
Missy - Thinking of you and Mike over the miles in the great southwest! I used to have an "in" with a few of the School Superintendents, but now they have both since retired. I know AZ isn't your choice, but hey I know I would love you guys here in our great state! My prayers are with you and there is NO doubt there is a greater plan for Mike and some very fortunate souls (students) are waiting to be touched, blessed by his talent and kindness! Keep us posted when he gets the big call!
Missy I am sorry I missed this, I have been distracted with personal stuff. I don't have any connection to TN accept for a past client who retired there.
I am hoping this experiment works and I know you will keep us posted. I am confident it will work out well. Yes right now it is stressful but it will get better.
Best wishes to you both.
