Ann Arbor Realtor Mary Helen Gilbert goes Home

Mary Helen Gilbert, Bob and Christa at Knights Steak HouseThis post is in honor of Mary Helen Gilbert who passed peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at home with her family.

Several weeks ago many of Mary Helens close Realtor friends got together with her to say good-bye at a dinner at Knights Steak House. It was very nice to be able to spend time with her and tell her in person how much we loved and cared for her.

She looked beautiful and was her witty self.

Mary Helen and I worked together at RE/MAX for 12 years. She was a wonderful Realtor who you knew when you did a transaction with you were dealing with a professional. I learned many things from her over the years. We laughed together much and had great discussions. Mary Helen had a very quick mind and grasph of situations. She had a business mind and picked up on new technology and ethical questions very quickly.

She became a Realtor in 1992 as an agent with the Edward Surovell, REALTORS. Most recently, she was an Associate Broker with The Charles Reinhart Company. Mary Helen was dedicated to her chosen profession as demonstrated by her involvement with the Ann Arbor Area Board of REALTORS® and the professional designations she earned. She could proudly show the GRI, ABR, CRS, SRES and e-PRO designations after her name.

A life of Service

Mary Helen served on the Board of Directors from 1998 - 2000 serving as Treasurer in 2000. She was Chair of the Finance / Investment Committee (2000), Chair of the Multiple Listing Committee (2002), and Chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee (1998). Her contribution and influence was also felt on the Professional Standards, Forms, Personnel and Nominating committees. She served as President of the Women's Council of Realtors in 2007.

Flowers we were all given at the dinner

The memorial service is Thursday at 1:00 at the Unitarian Church in Ann Arbor. (4001 Ann Arbor-Saline Road) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Mary Helen was such a neat lady. I had the fortune to work with her and Missy in years past and I am saddened to hear that she is no longer with us. It was an honor to have worked with her, I enjoyed every moment of it.

This is a lovely statement for a true professional.  The photo is great.  Our area has lost a wonderful person and professional.

I did not know her well, but the love and respect everyone has for her is just remarkable.

Missy - So sorry to hear about your lost.  Death is not something we accept easily.  It was really good you could all get together before she passed.
