Ann Arbor Undressed : I Downloaded FireFox 3.5 this morning and I LOVE IT !

Ann Arbor ="25 miles surrounded by reality".....and a blog about it. ActiveRain.com

I Downloaded FireFox 3.5 this morning and I LOVE IT !

This morning I updated FireFox 3.5 for my browser. WOW

  • It is faster
  • You can download fonts
  • Data is secure
  • Nothing on the web, or cookies all the data can go away when you log off
  • You can clear recent history from 2 hours, one day, a week whatever
  • If you forget where you are you can just go back to your history
  • Support for video is amazing
  • Location surfing with maps

Here is the video that says it better than I can.

One thing I really like is when I want to go to another new tab, I no longer have to go to the File Menu. I just click on the + sign and a new tab opens up.(see screen shot)

Screen shot with the + sign

I have been wanting to make the switch but unfortunately, at last check, our MLS is not compatible with FireFox. Arg.

My kids taught me about Firefox many years back and I love it.  It purportedly is more secure.  Certainly it caught Microsoft by surprise; the newer version of Internet Explorer incorporates ideas borrowed from Firefox.  Our MLS works with it, but it the fonts are compressed a bit.

Missy, I already love my Firefox and I didn't know about the upgrade.  Doing it next!

Missy...

I've been a fan of FireFox for several years now. It's so much faster than IE. One of the Big Dogs told me that IE is satan himself :)

Folks...

Just so you know FireFox is much more compatible with AR. If your AR is slow try using FireFox. Especially on those RainJackings :)

Missy - You beat to this blog. ha ha.. I was going to do this yesterday but had a couple of closings to get to. I love firefox and upgraded 2 days ago. It's great. Thanks for passing it onto everyone else. Cool!

I use firefox all the time and will definitely upgrade. It's not compatible with our mls but I love it for everything else. Thanks for the update!

Missy - I just downloaded firefox yesterday. They made some great improvement to the browser.

Missy - Now if we just can convince our MLS to make the switch to FireFox, it would be so much easier. That change would almost be like a world wonder :)

I like Firefox too... I use it for many things but our MLS is not compatable with it .... so impossible to make a full switch, for now. :)

I have been *hooked* on Firefox since they first came out.   So stable!   I love the newest version, no hiccups yet that I can see, only good stuff!

Anna, that is the AgentGenius web site I had open.

My MLS doesn't work with it either, so I have to log on to IE to access the MLS then I quickly log off. But, 99.5% of my web work in on FF and Safari.

Posted by Missy Caulk-Ann Arbor-Realtor® Ann Arbor Real Estate (Keller Williams-Ann Arbor) almost 3 years ago

I've been using Firefox since they started, and Netscape before that.  There are a few programs our industry uses that HAS to use internet exploder, and that's the only time I switch.

The best thing I like about FireFox is that I can go between my PC and Mac with the same bookmarks. Lot of plug-ins to customize!

Posted by Robert Zuniga almost 3 years ago

Hi Missy. I wonder what it is incompatible with like certain MLS systems. I have heard it is better with not getting as many viruses etc. in the area of security.

I love Firefox! I like the tabbed browsing, Flashkiller, and especially Adblock. I fired IE a long time ago. IE is full of security holes. Firefox is great.

Netflix's streaming movies were only accessible through IE, but recently they upgraded their system so it's compatible with Firefox. So maybe the MLS system will get more tech savvy, and upgrade their system too.

Missy - I have tossed around the idea of downloading this on my computer at home, but never went through with it.  I suppose that needs to change.

I think a lot of folks don't know that they can have multiple browsers on their computer... even open at the same time.  Our MLS and a few other sites I use aren't FF compatible, but I use FF for everything else.  I use IE8 for everything else (in compatibility mode, if needed)

Posted by Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Century 21 Results Realty) almost 3 years ago
Our MLS is not compatible either! Looks like I am an IE slave for a while.

I need to upgrade, too. Unfortunately our MLS is not up to speed with Firefox, nor are our Winforms. I have had a lot of issues with FF recently whcih I think are my computer.

Ah! Ha!...

Thank you Missy. I so need my buttons :)

I'm gonna share that little tip with others.

Folks...

If you downloaded FireFox 3.5 (from an earlier version) and lost your Google buttons all you have to do is re-load your Google Toolbar.

Don't spend two hours trying to figure that one out :)

I love Firefox too!  I wish my MLS would run on it.  I always feel "safer" when I'm using Firefox for some reason.

Missy,
I've been using Firefox for about 3 years and would never, ever go back to IE!

What is it with MLS's not being able to run FF? It's a conspiracy!

Posted by Erica Ramus - Ramus Realty Group - Pottsville, PA almost 3 years ago

How hard is it to run fire fox as your main program and still use explorer for other programs that require it ?

Posted by Roland Woodworth,SFR - Clarksville Short Sale and Foreclosure Resource (Keller Williams Realty) almost 3 years ago

We'll be getting ours next time we have time to reboot and deal with it.

Jason, just DO IT, you willl NEVER look back, it is so much fun and easy and fast and virus free.

TLW, :)

Sheldon, it is the agent genius post I had open.

Erica, well I don't think it is a conspiracy but it is stupid and they just don't WANT TO TAKE the time to add a little bit of code.

Roland, I use IE only for MLS.

Karen Anne, I use Safari for research on posts, but have FF so customized I love it.

FYI don't be enslaved to IE because of your MLS, like Lane said you can have a multitude of browsers on your computer.

Looks like I will have to revist using Firefox. I downloaded it but then went back to IE. Just one more thing to do on my list....Thanks...I think! LOL

Missy - Sounds like there are some nice new features in Firefox 3.5.  I prefer using Firefox but still need to use IE for the local MLS and for some other websites that don't appear properly in Firefox.

Missy you've encourage me to try it again. I've had it before but I went a little crazy switching between browsers. Top Producer like one but the MLS the other.

Posted by Bob Dunn (Homelife Glenayre Realty) almost 3 years ago

I wonder why mine didn't automatically update. OH, well, as soon as I'm done here, I'm downloading it. There is still one feature that my other browser has that I wish Firefox had and that is "DUPLICATE" the ability to copy the current open webpage and open it again. "GREAT" for when doing stuff on the MLS and you need to see two different pages.

Thanks Missy.  I didn't realize that there was an update.  FireFox 3.5 is much faster on my computer than the old version of FireFox.  FYI--the Chicago area MLS is optimized to run on FireFox.

Missy - Sounds like there are many happy Fire-Fox users here.  With the security issues with IE it looks like time to switch.
