The Gandy Dancer is located at 401 Depot Street in Ann Arbor. It is the old train station and the Amtrack trains go by traveling between Chicago and Detroit. It was built in the 1880's and has a fantatic atmosphere. This is one of the signs inside the building.

That is a very neat set of lettering. Would make for a very cool tee shirt. :-)
Missy,
Nice photo.
I have a fascination with railroad stations. When I was a teenager I would go the RR station, watched trains, people in the window, and dreamed of going places.
I still do.
Missy - wow, I remember that place. Was there 1 time - wonderful. What a great sense of history.

Missy, I love old train depot's and so does my youngest son. Thanks for sharing.
Missy, what a wonderful building! I would love to see more of it. (and, as C says, the lettering is tres cool)
Missy,
Trains and train lore is such an important part of Americana. Nice use of the old depot. :)

Missy, You have a lot of cool places in Ann
Arbor. I am going to have to check it out one day. :-)
Missy, I love that they have kept the old building in great shape! It does look like a great place, with a great atmosphere!
Missy, what a surprise this was...I wasn't sure what to expect from the blog post title "Gandy Dancer" but it sure wasn't a train station...LOL! :D

Missy - It provides a neat atmosphere! There is something timeless about most trainstations. Here in Sacramento, we have tried for years to jump start a plan to restore our grand station. Perhaps one day we will accomplish that!
Missy, some of the best architectural features in older buildings are in the ceiling! Look at the rafters and trusses. The signs are cool, too, but what frames them is fabulous!
Gandy Dancer- 1977 Senior prom- Dinner with high school boyfriend...priceless memory!
