Ann Arbor Undressed : Ann Arbor is called Tree Town

Ann Arbor is called Tree Town

Ann Arbor is called Tree Town.

Ann Arbor's "Tree Town" nickname stems from the dense forestation of its parks and residential areas. The city contains more than 50,000 trees along its streets and an equal number in parks. This was not shot in a park but in a neighborhood I was showing homes in on Friday. I thought it was a beautiful tree and was glad the developer didn't cut it down.Soon it will be in full bloom.

A person living in Ann Arbor is called an "Ann Arborvite". I took this on my cell phone for my photo blog.

Hi Missy... that's a great looking tree and you shot it so well that it almost looks like a painting!

Missy:  Yes... a great looking tree.  Trees add so much to a neighborhood, and to an entire area.  Here is another piece of "tree history" for you.  Cleveland, Ohio is referred to as "The Forest City"... probably because of reasons similar to the ones you cite for Ann Arbor.

Many areas of Cleveland are heavily wooded, and Cleveland is also surrounded by a park system called "The Emerald Necklace."  I can remember in my "younger years" LOL... going for rides in the countryside... just getting "lost" on purpose in the forest that is, and that surrounds Cleveland.  Great post, and thanks for bring this reminder about Cleveland to my mind's eye.  Have a Great Sunday !

Beautiful photo, and I would imagine un-retouched? We have too many developments in my area where it was cheaper for the builder to plow down every tree than try to keep a bit of the historical charm of the area. Nice to hear it's not like that everywhere.

Interesting Missy! I bet that tree is quite beautiful once the leaves are back on it:)

We have a lot of trees that are blooming now.......no dogwoods yet though.  They come out a little later.  What kind of tree is that one?  It is awfully nice even with bare limbs.

Missy - An Ann Arborvite - & a Michigander?  That was interesting & the tree's shape is beautiful.

That is one talented phone ;-) I have never been to Ann Arbor but I can only imagine how picturesque it must be. Great fun fact - I had no clue that it was know as Tree Town
