Where Should I Live If I Want To Walk to University of Michigan?

Ann Arbor

Where should I live if I want to walk to University of Michigan?

Simple question?

Not so much.

Where are your classes?

What part of campus are you going to be on the most?

University of Michigan is divided into four different area's.

  • North Campus
  • Central Campus
  • Medical Campus
  • South Campus.

Are you in University of Michigan Medical School?

If you are a student in the College of Engineering, Theatre and Dance, College of Architecture and Urban Planning or the School of Music they are located on the North Campus area.

Central Campus is the location of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, and is immediately adjacent to the medical campus. Most of the graduate and professional schools, including the Ross School of Business the Law School and the School of Dentistry, are on Central Campus. Two prominent libraries, the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library and the Shapiro Undergraduate Library which are connected by a skywalk, are also on Central Campus, as well as museums housing collections in archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, zoology, dentistry, and art.

U of M hospitalsThe Medical Campus is located between Fuller Road, Observatory and Geddes.

South Campus houses all of the Athletic Departments, the BIG House, Yost Arena, Chrisler Auditiorium. It is also home to the U of M golf course.South Campus houses athletic facilities

When we are asked this question on where to live to walk to classes at University of Michigan it is important to ask where you will be attending classes.

All the campuses are easily accessable by bus services and shuttle services.

There are apartments to rent surrounding the four different area's. There are condo's to rent or purchase as well as single family homes.

In order to steer you in the right direction for walking to University of Michigan we need to find out what part of campus you will be attending classes in. Central Campus area State street Theatre

Excellent answer to a seemingly simple question. You have given a tremendous amount of information about the University of Michigan and the different areas for housing. This is must reading for anyone thinking about this school.

Missy, good info, of course, as I'd expect nothing less.  I'm sorry RichRod and yesterday's collapse.  Tough day for big 10.  Mostly though....love the new fashion look!  Have you modeled lately?  Seriously though....what a great look!

Missy, you bring back a lot of fond memories but it's hard to recognize the campus any more.  I spent 6 years in grad school (61-67), never missed a home game in the Big House and knew the town pretty well.  The house on Washington Heights, where I lived is gone and so is the Pretzel Bell I've heard. Nonetheless, thanks for the update and good RE info. Go Blue!

Awww Richard, come visit. The Pretzel Bell is gone for many years. I do miss it too. They had the best food and atmosphere.GO BLUE!

Missy you know the University of Michigan very well.  From previous posting I know you have helped students and faculty buy or sell a home.

I like the way you broke it all down because in this case the answer depends on where on campus you want to be.

Missy, this is a great post for out of town students looking to make living arrangements....we get this question all the time with students coming to Longwood. Hopefully it will send some parents in your directions!
