Leadership Lessons from Bo Schembechler

Great book on leadershipOver the holidays, I bought my daughter the book, Bo's Lasting Lessons, by Bo Schembechler and John Bacon. She being a avid football fan, I knew she would like it.

Hummm, turns out I loved the book. Yea, the history of Michigan football is all there and that is fun to read. But, the lessons on leadership are life-changing. Regardless of what field or career in life you have chosen this book with take you up a notch in learning how to be an effective leader.

The majority of everyone Bo coached over his years at Michigan went on to become leaders in whatever career they chose.

John Bacon hounded Bo for 10 years to get the book written, because John felt Bo had a message to get out to everyone about leadership.

Yes, he did John you were right.

Being a leader is all about being prepared. Regardless of what your career is, whether it as simple as leading a girl scout troup, managing your real estate office, or TEAM, learning how to lead is critical to our life's successes. Over the years, I have always enjoyed reading biographies of strong leaders, they inspired me to be better and they humble me to know how true leadership comes at a price.

More lessons on leadership and continue reading on Ann Arbor Real Estate Talk. You do not have to be a football fan, or a Michigan fan to not be able to put this book down.

To be continued... being a passionate leader.

Carole, thanks for stopping by. I got it at Sam's for Christa and then went and bought it for myself so I could mark it all up.

Mana, this book is so good, it has helped me the last 3 weeks be a stronger team leader. You will both enjoy it.

I believe that one of the hardest jobs in this country is that of sports coach.  The epitomize leadership.

They also don't go around saying things like "winning isn't important, it's how you play the game".  They know that winning is important, in everything we do in life.

Indeed, it is about leadership.

Thanks Missy.

Susie, the book is excellent on leadership, one of the best I have read because it is fair and balanced and good old time values.

Sal, thank you.

Lenn, as you can tell from the comment on what Bo would do with his last days, it was all on being a leader and being prepared. So many times, people who are suppose to be leaders are willy-nilly and what people want is strong, prepared leaders. Thanks for commenting.

"Being a leader is all about being prepared!"

That just about sums it up! Whether you're an Agent trying to put an escrow together, a Lender trying to get someone approved, a Seller trying to get top dollar on your home...

Failure to plan is planning to fail!

Missy- sounds good.  I love Lenn's comment :)  Isn't that the truth, we have gotten so politically correct, and so whatever, that we don't even teach our kids that winning is important anymore.  And these kids will be our new leaders......

MISSY - As you know, I'm a big Michigan fan, and Bo was, in my opinion, one of the most influential figures in sports history.  I'll have to check this book out and get back to you when I finish it.  Thanks for the tip.

Missy, you too have great leadership traits. I will pick up a copy of Coach's book next trip to BN. Again, the links are truly my inspiration. Thanks.

Hi Missy, Sounds like a book I need to pick up.  Being prepared is the key, but....do we really understand what that means?

Missy, I look forward to seeing more from this book.  I am not a fan of Lou Holtz but I was talked into seeing him to a motivating speech.  He is a great speaker.. (still not a great football coach though)

Adam, I bought the book for Christa, but read it over Christmas, I liked it so much that I went and got my own copy to mark up. With you liking MI Football, you will love it, not just the lessons on Leadership but the whole thing.

Cynthia, we'll I hope we know what it means in our jobs. Yes, we get thrown curve balls but we still go into each situation prepared.

Frank, as much as you like football Frank you will like the book too.

Matthew, I actually think Lou Holtz is a good startegic coach, he figures out the opposition, IMO. But, I also heard he is good speaker. Oh, shucks....
