Ann Arbor Undressed : CNN Money Magazine Ann Arbor is Number 27 in Top 100 cities to live in

Ann Arbor ="25 miles surrounded by reality".....and a blog about it. ActiveRain.com

CNN Money Magazine Ann Arbor is Number 27 in Top 100 cities to live in

coach and four in the U of M campus areaAnn Arbor, Michigan was just named number 27 in CNN's Money magazine of best small cities to live in.

Here is a snapshot of the information on Ann Arbor.

I thought it was pretty interesting that the photo they used was of the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, since I had just written a localism post on the Farmers Market.

Excellent schools, affordable housing, restaurants, jobs were some of the criteria used to determine the winners.

Since I have been blogging on Activerain, I have met many of you through your writing and as a looked through all the cities I was able to attach a Realtor or lender with most of the cities named in the article.

Check out the entire report and see if you city is listed.

Best places to live map 2008Always exciting to see your city represented in this list, as we know Ann Arbor is a wonderful small town, yet has big cities ammenities.

Three other cities were named in Michigan, Troy, Novi and Shelby Township. I know bloggers in all three of those cities.

Very interesting.  I see that Columbia/Ellicott City made the top 10 in Maryland.

As usual, they provide the median housing cost figure which is not at all related to reality.  The figure they quote for housing is $355,000 median.  However, the real average housing price in Columbia/Ellicott City as of this a.m. is $495,396 and that includes detached, townhome and condo.

I hope no one reads that report, comes to Columbia or Ellicott City and expects to buy a home in the $355 price range.  Or, if they do, I hope they plan on buying a town home or condo or fixer-upper.

Interesting post Missy.  I love this stuff.

Awesome to see Michigan get listed 3 times...surprisingly, South Carolina didn't make the list anywhere!

Missy, one of my favorite couples moved to Ann Arbor about 15 years ago.  We all hoped it wouldn't last and they'd be back in DC in no time, but they totally love it there!  Sounds like a wonderful place to be.

Yay Ann Arbor!!! ::clink::

I was pleased with Chester County as one of the best places to raise a family too.  Now I have to check this list :)

Missy - Congratulation! I hope that will translate into more business.  We didn't make the list, I knew we wouldn't just on affordable housing alone.

Missy, it's great when your city makes these lists. Where it has been somewhat skewed oftentimes over the years is it seems the college towns get more weight because of the Education category. But Ann Arbor is great no matter if they were on the list or not. Put that as more information for you relocation packet.

Missy, you are such a great ambassador for Ann Arbor and Saline!  The Chamber of Commerce should honor all of your hard work.  Congratulations to Ann Arbor for making the list!

I Love Ann Arbor!  I will be there on Thurs with my daughter (another visit to the dental school for some fillings for her and I'm coming along because we enjoy spending some time in the city when one of us has to be there anyway)  Can you give me some good recommendations for lunch?  We have tried a number of spots, love Jerusalem's Garden and The Red Hawk, but always like to try somewhere new.  Years ago I used to love Maude's, they had this victorian charm and wonderful chicken pot pie under puff pastry, plus a great salad with brussel sprouts, yummy but alas they are gone, also used to love the no longer there PanTree, aritichokes with hollandaise sauce, huge salads, omelets to die for, can you tell I'm hungry?  Ooops, I forgot, I think the Art Fair will be on and being in Ann Arbor will probably not be a good thing that day, well if you have recommendations for another day, I'm all ears.
