Have you heard of The 9-12 Project?
It was started by Glenn Beck and the web-site launched yesterday. The problem is the site has been down with so many folks trying to log on.
In Glenn’s words, the 9-12 Project "is designed to bring us all back to the place we were on Sept. 12, 2001," when America was "not obsessed with red states, blue states or political parties."
I am in the midst of reading the book, The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell and pondering if this could be a tipping point.....
The Tipping Point's premise is "that magical moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips and spreads like wildfire."
The Nine Principles
1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
The 12 Values
Honesty
Reverence
Hope
Thrift
Humility
Charity
Sincerity
Moderation
Hard Work
Courage
Personal Responsibility
Gratitude
As Glenn Beck said and I agree this in not about the Donkey or the Elephant, this is about the Principals and Values our country was founded on. It is about they way we all came together after 9-11. We were not a political party but Americans.
The problems we are suffering from in our nation can only be solved when we return to the values that made our nation great. The rest is just a band aid.
If you want to lend your support to the We Surround Them you can email your photo to We Surround Them

Again this is not about politics but about us coming together as a nation and returning to our Values and Principals.

Missy, I agree with every part but the second principal. I am an atheist. Principle 9 is inspirational although in reality, it is hardly true.
Glenn Beck is very good at making us think through the possibilities. Whether or not we like it, major change lies just ahead for American society. We need to wake up as individuals and as a nation. He appeals to my core values, and he is right on the money!
The governement should answer to the American people not the other way. However, so should others...The Fed, and the Corporate Elite.
Missy...great post! (I was thinking it was the minimum hours I work...LOL)
I don't watch Glenn Beck often, but when I do, I like what I hear!
See you Friday!
Missy, I'm all for joining whatever I can to have a voice (which is trying to be silenced). Thanks for the information and Glenn Beck is usually right on.
Missy I disagree with many of the things that are going on in Washington right now, but the fact that I can and say that out load is one of the great things about this country. We are able to protest without prejudice at least in theory.
Hi Missy. Hope your having a good start to your year.
I don't often listen to Glen Beck, but when I do he usually says something that makes me stop and think. In that vein ... he has done his job.
I will have to pick up a copy of TheTipping Point. Looks like a good read.
And I happen to agree with the 9 principles. Life would be so much simpler if we all took them into account when we make decisios.
Interesting thoughts. And your right - it's not about politics right now - too bad we can't convince our government that it's not.
MIssy
NUmber 9 is super important. It's like when Ronald Reagan said "The problem isn't government; it's the people in government."
Sincerely
Tom Braatz
Missy - we have not heard of this. Thank you for informing us. We'll try to visit the website right now.
Great concept. .there is a separation on out country more than ever before. It's all about their causes but the country seems like it is always LAST.
It's time for our representatives on government to work for the country and NOT for their parties!
Missy- Great post. I am reblogging it to get it seen by more people on AR. This is important.
Missy wonderful post! These are things that we really need to get back to focusing on!
Missy - Glenn is an interesting cat as far as I'm concerned. I like a lot of what he has to say. But I think the Donkey & The Elephant need to move aside... as their own particular agendas don't necessarily jive with what is what we are about. They've had their monopoly-like run, time to move on...
This idea is a good one in my estimation. And the fact that we are having this cyber-conversation is part of what makes us great. I like comment numero uno, as Huiting is an atheist. Me, I'm not. I believe in a higher power... I'm just not sure if that higher power is the same as everybody else's.
Fran and Rowena, let me know if you can get on, it shut down the servers for days. I figure they are inlarging their servers for the capacity.
Kevin, that's why I let it be re-blogged.
Fernando, Oh how I wish....this is how grass route movements start....a Tipping Point.
Tom, Ronald had a lot of wisdom.
Lee and Pam, thanks for stopping by.
Carol, I just got it last week and am learning a lot about how things start in our country with many businesses. Well worth the read.
Steve, yes Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press are two of the things that make us FREE!
Herb, doing well...lots of short sale and foreclosures.
Hi Linda, nice to see you still read here. Hope all is well with you.
Thom and Ray....I am so excited to meet you too. This is going to be a great conference, so well organized.
Tony, yes we need more accountablity all the way around. However, it all should start with us as individuals and the right to govern ourselves. Unfortunately that has not happened and the results are obvious.
Jim, I enjoy Glenn Beck too, he doesn't sugar coat anything. I sent my photo in 2 weeks ago. The mosiac is only 10% of all those who sent their photo in.
Huiting, I am sorry but I do agree with you on # 9 not working right at this time. But, it use to and I hope we can get back to that one.
Jason, I think the Donkey and the Elephant need to move aside too. I would love to see a grass route movement spring up where independents could rise up and win. Unfortunately that would take a major overhall of campaign finance laws. Since the Donkey and the Elephant are both in power, I doubt anyone in either party would give that up.
However, movements like this with momentum could help if enough folks get involved and say, "enough is enough". Like the guy who painted on his roof, "Someone Listen to Me". So sad.
Missy,
Thank you for Posting! Here are some links to the show on Friday. I encourage all to watch and be inspired and become a part of the solution.
Enough is enough:)
And let's never become complacent.
One reason I finally caved and joined Twitter is that I ... as a "little" person ... can give my opinion to the news media. I'm following both local and national talking heads. Twitter seems to be a good way to get our collective voices heard. I'm in agreement with all the principles ESPECIALLY #9.
We need more of the "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"
this is fantastic and should be featured! the 'tipping point' is such a good descriptive its an exciting time we're living in.......with many 'tips' pointing' and many pointing tips.......not to mention 'tipping points' of course...;-0

Missy - My husband and I watch Glenn Beck every day. His show on Friday night was awesome. This project is taking on a life of it's own and is just the type of grass roots effort that needs to be taking place right now. The parallel he makes with the 9 principles and 12 values to how we all felt on Sept. 12, 2001 and the momentum that is building as a result of this gives me a renewed sense of optimism for our country!
Alice, thanks for the links.
Elaine, exactly I follow all the Michigan News Sources too. Finally after many months they are all following me too.
Liz, great book if you haven't read.
Donna, that was a great show, choked me up. I do think bringing us back to that terrible day but the feelings into his message as we all remember it so well. Like when J.F.K was shot we will never forget.
Jason, :)
Missed it all but appreciate the sharing.. Its finding the shift point and making the change for a better tomorrow.
hi Missy, it's too bad it takes major tragedies to wake people up and see what's truly important in life. Excellent principles to follow, no matter where we're from!
P.S. Did you see Malcolm Gladwell on Charlie Rose? As always an excellent interview!
Missy, I was just getting ready to do my 6 mile run. This is going to give me great things to think about. Quite frankly, I agree with all of it. I don't listen to Glenn Beck but I'm going to follow Alice's links when I get back! Happy Sunday.
Thank you so much for posting about this.
I saw this for the first time on Beck's show yesterday and then Kevin reblogged it for you - which lead me here. :)
I read the Tipping Point - we tipped a bit too far in the greed and personal gratification - about time we tipped in favor of the principles and values you cited. BTW - thanks for the referral for physician loans - my client is very happy!
I had not heard of the project, but have heard about Glen Beck. I haven't been watching or reading too much news lately because it gets me depressed. It's good to know there are people like you, my husband is one of them too, who do not bury their head in the sand like me. Garry is pulling mine out, but I keep reburying it. I enjoyed your post.
What a great list of values, if we could all follow them, the world we be a better place now than ever before, including pre or post 9/11! They gave me a smile just reading them.
Hi Missy,
Thanks for the info, and I haven't heard about this either. I'll be clicking over to twitter to participate.
Hi Missy,
Read it. I do not find anything in your post that I would not sign myself. Do not understand why we managed to move away from 9-12.
Remember that feeling that we are all Americans first and foremost. Why we need a disaster to get together?
Missy,
I've just begun to listen to Glenn Beck on a talk radio station in the morning, and I like what I hear. Thanks for your post; I had not heard about this.

Missy - keep spreading the word. We are huge Glen Beck fans because of his passion and straight shooting. We were participants in the Boston Tea party held in Asheville, NC and other places across the county several weeks ago, and plan to do it again on April 15. It all ties into the 9-12 mentality and in my opinion, it's high time we start thinking and behaving the way we did on that day.
Missy, I heard about this on Fox News yesterday. Glad you posted this information. Thanks
Carol, good for you. I was going to go but it was an hour and half away in Mi and raining cats and dogs.
Jon, good question on WHY? We need to come together now.
Fran, LOL at your hubby.
Cathy, glad it is working out.
Mark, Rebecca, Mike, Lynda, Janie, Thanks for reading and appreciating.
Connie, 6 miles? You go girl. I'll call you tomorrow to coordinate.
marti, no I did not see it. You can link it here as I don't care about links if they add to the discussion.
There have been thousands of comments about this http://www.the912project.com/
Yet, I get the feeling that this is again going the route of them versus us, the 2-party political system, etc.
What Glenn Beck is aiming for sounds like Utopia. Even if we can't get there or find it, we can at least subscribe to the basic tenets and principles (unless you're an atheist, then leave out the second principle)
From my end, God (by any name) help us all!
Missy, I was facinated reading this. I'm sorry to say I hadn't heard of the 9/12 project but would love to hear more about it and read the book. We all DID pull together and I loved the Values that are listed. Thank you for bringing more awareness to this.
Missy, I love the inspiration...although I think the government is forcing us all to be charitable in paying exhorbatent taxes...especially when I know that a prisoner in Illinois is enjoying 3 meals a day and a wide-screen TV (which I can't afford) and a daily trip to an upscale gym (which I don't have either)...and they don't have to worry about a roof over their head. It seems like our government helps too many of the people who don't work for it and who hurt so many innocent, hard-working, tax-paying citizens...but I shouldn't judge, I guess... I should not stray from your wonderful points, and excellent purpose... I'll hang around with folks like you and most AR members any day. I'm all for that. This, to me, is real. And the 12 values are timeless---and something I can continue to practice. And will. Thank you for sharing the powerful moment of review and reflection and re-dedication to what really matters. (and can't wait to meet you at RETech! South)
Missy- Nestor and I go out on a date every Friday nite, but we decided that Glenn Beck th912project was going to be our date night last Friday. It was SOOO good!
Not only that, I don't watch TV, but I started watching Glenn Beck because Simon Conway told me about him. Now at 5 we stop and watch Glenn. I use that time to exercise on my mini trampoline, so now I can watch without feeling guilty!
This was a great show. Fox got the biggest servers they could find but they had over 500 people PER SECOND, logging in and so the server crashed! Can you imagine that! PER SECOND.
Tea party time!
Missy, I was going to say I had not heard of it but when I pulled the website up I realized that I have watched it on Glen Beck. I will have to check the Tipping point out. I would love to see us all come together as a nation again. We seem to have been torn apart the last few years.
Missy - I like the spirit of this project, and applaud you for letting us know about it. Thanks for letting me reblog it!
Missy--Glenn Beck is a Must see program in our Home; we watch every night that we are here at 5:00 pm. He is definitely a Type A, but God Bless him, we need his type to speak out on the media for those of us who only contact a few people each day. We are tuned into these thoughts through daily Rush. Sean, & now Glenn; the book is a read for those who don't subscribe to the vitriol that abounds. It is good to work from home as we can multi-task with these shows too.
Good that you called this to attention.
Michiganders really need to read, watch & listen too. Hope that they do so.
Barb & Sal
Isn't it odd how we did seem like a country completely undivided on 9/12/01? Remember everyone driving around with all of their American flags on their cars? If only people cared more like that on a daily basis....
